Just Don't Understand It!

Ok, here's the deal, day in and day out I assist people with finding housing, employment, etc. I love what I do, I luck up and get people who are sincere in what they want and they work toward the goals they set for themselves..........Then I get those (mainly young women) who come into my office and give sob story after sob story, mostly about how they have no family that they can depend on, no money to take care of their children, or no one will hire them. After they tell me what's going on in their lives, I begin to ask a few questions and these are some of the answers:
Me: What do you want out of life?
Client: To get a job and a place to stay.
Me: What about your family?
Client: We don't get along.
Me: Why is that?
Client: They want me to pay rent when I don't have a job.
Me: Do you want me to help in finding you work?
Client: Yes.
Me: Do you have a high school diploma?
Client: No, I dropped out in the 10th grade.
Me: Why?
Client: I don't know....I just didn't want to finish.
Me: Would you want to go to school and get your GED or Diploma if the agency paid for it while at the same time we find you some type of work until you get on your feet?
*And here's the answer*:
Client: WILL THAT GET MY CHECKS CUT OFF???
WHAT THE FLYING FUCK!!!!!!
Here I am trying to assist you in getting your life together and your worrying about a check you get on the first of the month, money that you blow in a matter of days, and then come to me when your ass realizes that either you are about to be evicted and need rental assistance or your damn lights are about to be disconnected because you blew your money in that new Roco
Wear outfit! What I really want to do at this point is to jump across my desk and get back all my damn tax money back from that damn expensive outfit & ice your wearing that I get MY black ass up every morning and work a job for, while you sit your ass up at home and watch The Young and The Restless and The Bold and The Beautiful, then decide at 3:30 in the damn afternoon that you think you need to go look for some work!
This is a true situation that I had today at work and it just ticked me OFF!!
Now, I do understand that people, especially young people have it hard out there on their own. There are situations that they sometimes can't help. I understand that not everyone thinks like I do.
This is how I see it, when a young girl grows up in an environment where the mother and grandmother has been receiving welfare assistance and doing nothing to change their lives for the better, the young girl automatically thinks that it's the norm and then she grows up and the vicious cycle continues. Now, there are a few who strive to break that cycle, I've seen it happen. They set different goals for their lives and strive for it and become great young women. But then you have some, no matter how much you help them, talk to them, try and guide them, they just want it easy. They try and play on your generosity to get a light bill, rent, or what the hell ever!
Like I said, not all people are like this. I am writing from the experiences that I have with some of my clients.
All I'm Sayin Is That I Just Don't Understand It!
Will someone please help a sista out?
